Pioneering design for modular ‘Post Operations Clean Out’ facilities

Consafe have successfully completed a series of modular facilities designed to safely retrieve, handle and package radioactive waste material (ILW).

The first of their kind in the world for such applications, these unique facilities were totally constructed offsite and delivered by lorry to their destination where the individual modules were assembled and ‘hooked-up’ in place.

When undertaking construction work on a highly sensitive site there are necessarily access restrictions that will unavoidably impact production and efficiency. However, by manufacturing these buildings off site in Consafe’s own secure indoor workshops, a high level of construction productivity is achieved. Furthermore, the finished modules are extensively tested prior to their delivery to the client’s site for installation and hook-up minimising the potential for operative exposure at the construction site.
